Byblos Resort & Casino is located only 2.5 miles south of the world-famous fishing port of Quepos. Offering an affordable boutique-sized resort atmosphere, Byblos has served as one of anglers' most popular lodging, dining, and casino options in Costa Rica for more than 20 years.
The Quepos region offers some of Costa Rica's best inshore and offshore fishing available year round. The area is well protected from the prevailing northerly winds and enjoys mostly comfortable weather throughout the year, although you can generally expect rain in the late afternoons and during the nights starting around May and sometimes lasting through December.
Billfish are the most popular choice for most anglers, and they are rarely disappointed from as early as December and continuing through April. A typical day can consist of releasing as many as one half dozen sailfish and often a marlin or 2, although it is not uncommon to release more than a dozen sailfish in one day. You can also expect dolphin, giant yellowfin tuna, wahoo, cubera, roosterfish, a variety of snapper, grouper, both blue and rainbow runners, snook, jacks, mackerel, and many other species. Costa Rica's sport fishing records are a testament to why so many anglers choose Costa Rica, and more specifically the areas near Byblos Resort, for their sport fishing vacation. With more than 70 current IGFA world-record fish from Costa Rican waters, including 17 all-tackle recognitions, your dream fishing vacation is waiting for you.
For Byblos guests' convenience, there is a wide selection of charter boats to choose from in the Quepos Marina area. All boats are manned by professional bilingual captains and mates, with years of experience in catch-and-release sport fishing. Most charters are skilled not only in the art of conventional fishing, but specialize in offshore fly and light-tackle big game fishing as well. If you wish to fly fish, we recommend bringing your own fly equipment, as though most charters have some fly rods and equipment on board, the best equipment is not available in Costa Rica. All fishing charters include lunch (for full-day trips), snacks, fruits, soft drinks, water, cold beer, tackle, and all fishing equipment. Due to the popularity of sport fishing near Byblos, we are happy to help you pre-book your fishing trip to assure you space with the best boats and captains available.
Please refer to the following as a general guide to seasons for the best fishing in the Quepos area, but keep in mind that fish don't necessarily check the calendar!

Quepos is known to be one of the best locations in the World to release a Pacific Sailfish, and some of the best opportunities to catch a giant Yellowfin Tuna, a Black Marlin of over 500 pounds, or a jumbo-sized Dorado or Snook are from May to November.
